Sewing Projects with daughter

I was so  happy when my 9 years old daughter expressed her interest to learn sewing.
Fortunately, I always have a ton of fabric scraps and she can cut as much as she wants.
First of all she learned how to handle a needle and then I showed her how to sew straight lines on piece of paper using a sewing machine.
She was so proud to complete a fleece jacket and I helped her with final finishes :)

After the jacket was cut, we had a fitting and agreed that the sleeve opening was too small and she had to re-cut all of her pattern pieces. The second time was more successful and the jacket was perfect! I am looking forward for another project.

Alteration ideas - how to transform a top into a dress

I found a baby yellow linen top at the thrift store for 50% off, which had very nice buttons.
I could not resist not to buy it. The buttons and lace pieces had been stored for another project, but linen material was a perfect option to pair with the floral cotton for my daughter's dress.

One of the best places to find buttons, trims, and other materials for less- The Thrift Store

Over the last couple of years I've learned that the thrift stores are the one of the best places where I can find buttons, zippers, lace, fabrics, or design inspirations. Usually I don't even bother to go to the fabric store, I go
Sometimes, I find a perfect piece of fabric for a new design project. Sometimes, I safe a lot money on buttons for new pieces of clothing, but sometimes I just undo the garment and draft the pattern using the garment pieces.
I really save once I shop while a store runs 50% off- I pay $.90- $5 or less for a set of 6 to 13 buttons!
Recycling clothing can be fun :)
