One of the best places to find buttons, trims, and other materials for less- The Thrift Store

Over the last couple of years I've learned that the thrift stores are the one of the best places where I can find buttons, zippers, lace, fabrics, or design inspirations. Usually I don't even bother to go to the fabric store, I go
Sometimes, I find a perfect piece of fabric for a new design project. Sometimes, I safe a lot money on buttons for new pieces of clothing, but sometimes I just undo the garment and draft the pattern using the garment pieces.
I really save once I shop while a store runs 50% off- I pay $.90- $5 or less for a set of 6 to 13 buttons!
Recycling clothing can be fun :)

 

From old to new

Having so much clothes in house sometime can be a problem, however, you alway can use them as materials fro something new.
Two old jeans and a three tiered skirt became a brand new outfit for my daughter.
She loved her denim jacket and a sun dress!
To make a dress, any tank-top can be used as s size reference for the top.
A plaid lining, which also was a casual shirt before, was added to the jacket to cover raw seams and
I also used it to make inside front pockets with button closures.
And one more fact- if you don't have denim spans, you probably can find a jacket at the thrift store which has buttons what you are looking for.
I paid only $5.60 for a white jacket which had 12 metal  very nice button which were perfect for the denim jacket I made.

   

Miracle of Alteration- transitioning from Jacket to Lined Vest

A few weeks ago, I decided stop at the local thrift store to see if there was anything I could not to live without. Surprisingly, it was one of these days when store ran 50% OFF on everything. One of the very kind shoppers offered me a coupon and it just made my day. I found a few very interesting pieces which could be easy transformed into something what I would love to wear.

One of the pieces was a Design Jacket made of Embroidered fabric. It had hook and eye center front closure and the size smaller than I usually wore, but it didn’t stop me from purchasing because the amazing price $3.05 was irresistible.

I decided to make a vest and add lining, so exposed embroidery threads on inside of the garment could be completely covered.

I loved the final result and the vest fitted me perfectly.

I’m looking forward to start another project!
