Fabric Manipulation

Winning the American Sewing Expo last year gave me a unique chance to present my collection to the public. I was always inspired by abstract art and fabric manipulation. I decided to create a 12 piece collection inspired with an abstract geometric theme. I would like to share the main idea of each outfit, but the final garments will be posted on my blog by the end of September.

To do pin tucks, draw lines about 1 1/4'' apart, then fold along the lines. You can machine stitch 1/2'' wide pleats or create baste stitching before.

Add a piece of fusible interfacing to the top side of a decorative detail to prevent stretching.

Stitch down pleats on both sides, then stitch a seam through the center. To create a different look, make a seam through each half in an opposite direction. Two decorative details are centered at the front and the back of the dress.

Baste stitches now will fold my pleats up and allow me to do zig-zag or diamond shape stitches to create a unique pattern.

Check the final look out in September!
